The very first time I spoke with Cathy about our intent she was very interested and treated me so friendly and, yes, answered my immediate questions. Her candidness was very reassuring as we discussed her services and the various adoption scenarios she had come across in her experience. My husband and I felt a strong comfort level because up to that point in the process we really didn’t have any more questions from Adoption Consultants, Inc. She had taken the time to answer them all! Cathy always reminded me that each adoption is unique and therefore she could not give me a cookie cutter step by step account of how everything would happen, and that was a true answer indeed. I put my hopes and dreams into prayer everyday and trusted Cathy to align a fitting prospect that would be a win win for everyone. A few months passed and I felt anxious about not having been matched yet. Cathy again was reassuring, asked us to give the process a little time and to be patient and not give up, which we didn’t.
One evening Cathy called with a birthmother who was interested in our profile. Cathy asked if we would like to speak with her. We had absolutely no idea what questions to ask! Cathy was great and provided insight as to what types of questions we might want to ask. Cathy provided us with a copy the questionnaire the birthmother had filled out. We found that our birthmother had very good reasons for placing her child, and that her placement was made out of love and concern for her unborn child, as well as the other children she was raising. Once we matched, because we felt comfortable with each other, we communicated regularly with our birthmother about important milestones prior to the birth, and Cathy coached us during that time as well. I developed a bond with our birthmother and became interested in her, and not just in the fact that she was carrying our baby. In the beginning I was unsure to what extent we should call the birthmother or ask questions but, again, Adoption Consultants, Inc. provided guidelines that help everyone involved in the process.
Then one day the call came! Our son was soon to be born! We rushed to the hospital. The next few moments were to be the greatest moments in our lives as we first met our dear birthmother and then seeing our sweet and cherished son wheeled in all bundled up with a little baby cap on his small head. I picked him up and I kissed on him with all the love I had been saving for him. I had loved him already for so long and this love was so strong it could not be broken. My husband was also beyond seventh heaven. During this time Cathy was continuously calling and checking on us, as well as checking with our birthmother. We had understood from the beginning of our adoption journey that birthparents have the right to change their mind about placing. Cathy had always prepared us for this possibility so in the unfortunate event this should occur we would be emotionally prepared for it. I know it sounds hard to believe, but once you are there at the hospital and facing the issue, and you put yourselves in the birth parent’s shoes, you clearly understand their feelings. You clearly understand how emotional the process is for them and how truly difficult the decision is for them to give their child to another to raise as their own. During one crucial moment we felt the adoption might not take place because the birth father began having second thoughts about the adoption because the baby was a boy. During this time we found solace in the fact that my husband and I had the once in a lifetime privilege of meeting our little son and his birth-family and what a wonderful moment that was. During those difficult moments Cathy right was there, speaking with our birthmother, with her mother (who was in favor of the adoption) and speaking with us, offering so much guidance and insight we are so sure without her involvement things would not have been so easy. After Cathy spoke with our birthmother at length, the birth parents agreed the adoption plan was best for everyone and much to our favor our adoption did take place. We left the hospital with our son and the sun was shining bright, the air was crisp, and we were thrilled to have a little one to be the center of our lives.
My husband and I can sincerely say Cathy was on top of our adoption pursuit, guiding us through and offering support every single step of the way. My husband and I could not be more complimentary of Cathy for her impeccable professionalism, and her advocacy on behalf of adoption parents and birthmothers. I strongly recommend Adoption Consultants, Inc. as an outstanding adoption facilitation corporation. As they say, the proof is in the pudding, and the pudding in our case is our dear son Alek next to us every hour of the day and Cathy facilitated the entire process! She was there for us, and we are so very happy to have come in contact with her. We do plan to adopt again in the near future, and have already advised Cathy of our intention to come back to her for our next adoption! We would never think to go any where else!
