We looked at many other paths to adoption, and were very pleased we chose Cathy Mantell and Adoption Consultants, Inc. to work with. This was our second adoption and we were so impressed with Cathy's professionalism! When we spoke with Cathy we immediately felt she understood what was important to us in our next placement, she was very informative and very personable.
As we started our preparation, Cathy gave us prompt and honest advice to get our birthmother letter together. She gave us lots of great ideas. She really understands the adoption process and helped us with all our questions as they arose. Then, as we moved forward, working with us throughout all the necessary steps, we always felt she gave 110% and did a wonderful job guiding us through the process. She is very thorough, and we always knew she was working hard to find the right match for us. Within a short time of contracting, we were selected by a birthmother. This was going to be her first child. Cathy spoke with us about the risks involved in such a situation, and she felt it would be beneficial for our birthmother to receive counseling. We agreed. Cathy did a wonderful in locating a great therapist in our birthmother’s area who had previously worked with the Department of Social Services in placing children for adoption, and who was a real advocate of adoption and very supportive of birthmothers. The counseling did help our birthmother and prepare her for placement. Sadly, shortly before she gave birth there were medical complications and the baby did not make it. This was a very difficult time for us, as well as our birthmother. Cathy was wonderful in keeping us informed of what was happening on a moment to moment basis, as well as keeping in touch with our birthmother in the days and weeks to come to see how she was coping emotionally with this loss, as well as with us.
We restarted our adoption search. We were subsequently matched with another birthmother in early February 2007. She already had several children and didn't feel she was in a position to raise another child. Her life was rather chaotic. Cathy helped us with the transportation and other issues as they came up, making sure medical appointments happened. She worked alongside us to keep the process moving forward. She was always very connected to what was happening in our adoption plan and did everything she could to help facilitate it along in as smooth a manner as possible. Even when our birthmother would call on the weekends or late hours, Cathy was always there to help guide us through. She was also very helpful in getting the medical records throughout the pregnancy. Unfortunately, the doctor’s office was not very helpful and was actually quite difficult to work with. Cathy intervened and worked with the doctor’s office directly to get these records throughout, which really helped.
When our precious little girl was born in the wee morning hours of the weekend, April 15, 2007, Cathy drove down to meet with us at the hospital and join in the celebration! When we returned home, she continued to call to see how we were doing. We still remain in contact to this day. We really can’t say enough about our experience working with Cathy and Adoption Consultants, Inc.. Any fears or anxieties we had working through this process were eased by Cathy and her warm and caring manner. She was always there with a listening ear and helpful advice. We always felt very comfortable with her and knew we were in excellent hands. We were extremely pleased with Cathy's professionalism and competency throughout. We felt very good about our decision to have contracted with Cathy and Adoption Consultants, Inc. and to this day have never regretted this decision. We have recommended her company to several people who are interested in adoption and will continue to do so knowing they will be in excellent hands. Cathy truly understands the adoption process and was such a support to us when we needed it. Our family is complete now and we feel so joyful and blessed. We are so grateful to Cathy for helping us through this journey. Thank you, Cathy!!!
