Where do I begin....so many things have happened in the last year. Our biggest blessing, our daughter Marina, came into our lives in October of '07 and we have been "flying high" ever since. All thanks to Cathy Mantell of Adoption Consultants, Inc. and Marina's wonderful birth mother!
We started out on our adoption venture in January of '07, we originally were looking into international adoption, as we were afraid of the "long" wait lists for a domestic adoption. Two months into starting our international adoption pursuit we got cold feet. So many things were changing with the government and their laws. There was so much "red tape," and there was no guarantee how long the process would take.
We soon talked to one of our friends who had adopted their precious, beautiful daughter through the help of Cathy and Adoption Consultants Inc. He had nothing but wonderful things to say about Cathy. We were very impressed with how he spoke so glowingly about Cathy and her company. He suggested we call her and just talk to her about the process. So we did. I immediately called her and ended up speaking to her for well over an hour. She put so many of our fears at ease and answered every one of our questions. My husband and I knew she was the right person for us to be working with. She had so much knowledge regarding adoption and the process, and we felt very comfortable with her. We signed on with the Contractual Facilitation Program in April of 2007. Cathy was a great help in helping us create a really wonderful birthmother letter that we felt very good about. Soon after our profile became to circulate, we were matched in August...just four months after we started working with Cathy! Actually, Cathy had called us several times during the first few months with other possible matches, but we choose to pass and see what came up next. Being new to adoption, it was a bit scary to jump in. Cathy was always very understanding when we would pass, and never put pressure on us to accept a situation we did not feel at ease with.
In August, Cathy called us one evening to talk about Marina’s birthmother and put through a conference call so we could speak with her. The call went really well and we were really excited about the possibility of this situation. We waited while Cathy obtained some photos and medical records. Once we accepted the match, everything happened so fast! We couldn’t believe how fast! Cathy walked us through everything; she was available to us at all hours, answering each and very every e-mail I sent to her (and there were a lot of them) :) and all our calls. She was always there whenever we needed her. She never made us feel as though we were bothering her or calling/e-mailing too often. We found her always willing and eager to jump in and help any way she could. She helped us locate a wonderful attorney in Texas, as well as a really great attorney in California to handle the necessary legal paperwork. When we arrived in California, Cathy was in constant contact with us, making sure our adoption was going smoothly and all the legals were occurring as they should. She continued to check in with us daily, even after we left the hospital to make sure we were doing okay. To this day, she remains in contact with us, checking in periodically to see how things are going. This Christmas (our first with our baby daughter!) Cathy even sent us an adorable baby Christmas hat and baby pink stocking, both reading Baby’s First Christmas. How adorable! It was a wonderful surprise to receive and something Marina can keep and look back on in the future. To say Cathy takes her adoptions to heart I think is an understatement. It is obvious Cathy really cares about the work she does, helping bring together birthmothers and adoptive parents, and she truly does everything she can to make everyone feel as comfortable as possible with the process and guide them through it as smoothly as possible.
We couldn’t imagine having gone with another company other than Adoption Consultants. Thanks to Cathy and our daughter's incredible birthmom, we have become parents to a beautiful, happy, healthy little girl who is the light of our lives! If you are considering adopting and wondering who you can work with who is honest, hardworking and really cares about those she works with and the process (all things we wondered about ourselves!), it is most definitely Cathy and Adoption Consultants, Inc. We plan to enlarge our family in the near future and we can tell you we will not think twice about going with Adoption Consultants, Inc. again. We simply wouldn’t want to travel this road without her experience, knowledge and endless support. We will always be grateful to Cathy, and she will always have a special place in our hearts. Our dreams finally came true! Thank you Cathy!
