Hi. We are Michael and Liz and we would like to share our experience of adoption with you. After making the decision to pursue a private adoption, we began looking for an adoption facilitator to help match us with a birth mother. We selected three facilitators to interview. After meeting with Cathy Mantell of Adoption Consultants, Inc., our search for a facilitator was over. We knew after meeting her that this was who we wanted to help us complete our dream of being parents. She was very warm and friendly, and easy to talk with.
Cathy has years of experience and is very knowledgeable about adoption. She openly and honestly will answer all of your questions. When you speak with Cathy you never feel like she is rushing you. She will take her time and you never feel that you are bothering her….no matter when you call…even evenings and weekends. One of the nice things about Cathy is that she will check in with you to see how you are doing, to find out if any of your criteria has changed and to let you know about possibilities that you might be interested in. One of the biggest complaints I hear about other facilitators is that you never hear from them. This is not the case with Cathy.
After Cathy introduced us to our son’s birth mother, she continued to check in with us on a regular basis. (In fact, our son is six months old and Cathy still checks in to see how we are doing.) Cathy also continued to check in with our birthmother as well. She didn’t just match us and forget about us. She remained involved throughout, and we all felt her support. She helped us find the agency in the birthmother’s area to terminate the birth parents rights and she also put us in touch with an attorney who was able to help answer questions regarding the birth father’s rights should he contest the adoption, which he didn’t, but it was nice to have the peace of mind of knowing how it would be handled if necessary.
We cannot begin to say enough good things about Cathy and her company Adoption Consultants, Inc. She helped us throughout the entire process and we knew she was always just a phone call away. We always found her to be most helpful throughout our process. She helped us with our birthmother letter, offering very helpful advice. She helped prepare us to speak with a birthmother, and she helped ease our nerves when we were preparing to meet our birthmother. She kept in constant touch with us when our son was born, and also made sure our birthmother was doing okay.
We know that it is difficult to put your hearts (and wallet) in the hands of someone you don’t know. You wonder after you sign the contract and pay the money if you will ever hear from them again. We would like you to know we had a wonderful experience with Cathy. If it hadn’t been for her, we would not have our blessed son. We plan to use her services again so that Dylan will have a sibling. We couldn’t imagine using anyone else for this process. Cathy is very detailed, hard working, insightful, knowledgeable, not to mention kind, honest and caring. What else would one want? To anyone who is wanting to adopt, we would not hesitate referring Cathy and Adoption Consultants, Inc. She and her company are really terrific.
