As I am writing this, our beautiful little girl is 11 1/2 weeks old and yet I still stare at her in disbelief that she is here and that we actually have a daughter.   Every day I thank God for her and I truly thank Him that He had us find Cathy.   In November of 2003 after several years of trying to conceive we got the strong desire to adopt.  We first tried to decide if we wanted to go internationally or domestically.  We had several different concerns with domestic - the agencies we had talked to in South Carolina either had really long waiting lists, that the waiting was normally from 1-3 years, or that they didn't seem to have many birthmother contacts, but then while searching the Internet I found Cathy's web site for Adoption Consultants, Inc.  I immediately called Cathy and left a message and a couple hours later she returned my call and we talked for over an hour.  She was so great.  She really helped answer all of my questions and we instantly felt like she was the person we wanted to go with.  We just had a feeling that this was the way that we were going to be able to start our family.  I never realized that it would be started as soon as it was though!   We decided that since we were going into the holidays that we would first go through the Registration Program.  We created our profiles and sent them to Cathy in the middle of December.   Over the next couple weeks I had several questions and I would e-mail Cathy and she was so quick to respond to us.  She was so helpful even though we were only registered with her and hadn't contracted yet.  That impressed me that she would do that.  Some agencies here wouldn't even talk to me until we gave them more of a "down payment".

On January 18th, my husband and I were planning on telling my family that we wanted to adopt, but they were out of town.  Little did we know that our little girl was going to be born that day.   January 19th at around 7:30pm, I got a call from Cathy.  When I heard her voice I automatically thought she was going to tell me that there was a birthmother that wanted to talk to us.  Instead she told us there was a little girl born, that she had met the birthmother in the hospital and shown her profiles of waiting families and that the birthmother had chosen us!  I was in shock - it had only been 1 month and none of our family even knew we wanted to adopt.  Within a couple hours Cathy had called me several different times with updates and had e-mailed us pictures of our beautiful little baby!  That night Cathy called us several more times just to let us know how Isabella was doing (she was a preemie, so the hospital was deciding on when she could leave, etc.), what the necessary next steps were for us.  I know that we were talking to her until at least 2 or 3 in the morning, which means it was close to midnight Cathy's time.  I can't imagine that many other people would work so late helping a client and a birthmother, much less on a weekend!

As this happened so quickly, Cathy was wonderful in walking us through everything.  She made phone calls for us, checked up on what was the best way for us to go about finalizing would be since we were from a different state, and just really went above and beyond what I ever thought she would do.  Then when we got out to California she met us at the hospital the first day that we were there.   She also took pictures of us with Isabella and was so sweet to e-mail them to my family back home.  Since Isabella had to be in the hospital for a week after we got out there, if Cathy hadn't sent the pictures none of our friends or family would have seen her until she was 2 weeks old and we were able to bring her home.  That really helped our family and friends to be a real part of this.  During our time out in California, Cathy really helped us through everything. There were so many things that we wouldn't have known to do but she did and she would make sure everything that needed to get done got done.  She would also call us several times throughout each day to check on us and help us in any way we needed.   We would have been lost without her and probably would be telling more of a horror story, but instead we are able to talk about how wonderful our experience was!

I really can't sing Cathy's praises enough.  For us she was a Godsend.  Anytime I hear of anyone wanting to adopt, I feel like jumping in and telling them they need to talk to Cathy.  My husband and I were so impressed with how knowledgeable she was, as well as personable!  She also amazed us because she was really helping us and concerned for us, and we could also tell that she was really concerned for our birthmother and helping her as well.  I don't think there are many agencies or facilitators that can do as good of a job of helping both parties.  She is truly gifted in what she does.  This isn't just a job for her, it really is her calling.

Isabella is such a wonderful blessing and a true gift from God!  I look at her now and I know that no other child could be as precious to me as she is.  I can honestly say now that I am SO thankful that I never got pregnant, because I wouldn't want any other child than her.   I know now that all along God had Isabella chosen for us!
