Gary and I struggled with infertility for many years. We went through artifical insemination with no luck many years ago, then we chose to pursue fost-adopt, which did not work out the way we had hoped. We tried artifical insemination again, and still had no luck in conceiving a child of our own. We then turned our attention towards adoption, but our fears of adoption, as well as the potential high costs, held us back for some time. One of our main fears was also our ages. I am 43 and Gary is 53-years-old.
While turning the internet upside down, I found Adoption Consultants, Inc.'s web site. I was highly impressed by the web site, as well as by Adoption Consultants, Inc.'s owner, Cathy Mantell, after speaking with her on the telephone. Allthough impressed, I still have many questions regarding Adoption Consultants, Inc. being a facilitation office. I was especially fearful that should we be matched with a birthmother, the office would abandon us upon the match leaving us with virtually no idea as to what to do next. Cathy reassured me she would walk us all the way through our adoption plan until the very end, and until we had brought our baby home. Cathy lived up to her words, and then some!
I had a lot of faith and trust in Adoption Consultants, Inc. and in Cathy so we contracted and waited in the hopes of being matched. We were with Adoption Consultants, Inc. only 3 1/2 months when we got the call on Valentine's Day that there was a baby who needed an adoptive family right then and there, because the baby was already born! The following day, Cathy stayed in constant contact with me. She must have made at least 20 calls to keep us informed of the latest developments. Late that afternoon Cathy put through a conference call to the birthmother, and even a separate call to her extended family who were actively involved in the adoption plan so they would feel more comfortable with the choice the birthmother had made in choosing Gary and I as the adoptive parents. Cathy then made the necessary phone calls to bring in an adoption attorney and a social worker, proviiding them with the necessary background information to allow them to move the adoption plan forward in a timely and smooth manner. We had very little stress regarding this adoption, all because of Cathy's efforts and the the lead she took in guiding us through. We didn't even have to make any phone calls to locate the appropriate entities to handle the necessary paperwork. Cathy handled it all, keeping us appraised every step of the way! Her diligence, fortitude and commitment to making our adoption plan a reality was truly amazing! Many of her phone calls fell late into the evenings and also on the weekends, including all day Valentine's Day (and night!) She even remained on call throughout the following weekend, just in case our baby was released during the weekend, as Cathy was planning to meet us at the hospital to share in our joy in bringing our baby girl home! Cathy did drove down to meet us (in the rain!) and it was wonderful to finally meet this very special person who had so carefully and caringly guided us through our journey.
We now have our daughter home with us, and she is the greatest miracle to myself and my husband. She is so perfect for our family, and she fits right in. She could pass for one of our family members! If I could choose a child, I don't think I could have found a better match myself! Cathy still remains in contact with our family, wanting to know how our daughter is doing and what's new with our family. She really cares about the families she assists and helps to create. She doesn't just forget about you after she makes a match. She's always interested in knowing how your family is doing as the years pass. I would, and do, strongly recommend Cathy and Adoption Consultants, Inc. to any one hoping to adopt. I can tell you first hand, Cathy and her company do far more than you hire them to do, and she can help take the fears and stresses out of adoption for you. Should we adopt again, I will not hesitate to call Cathy to assist us again!
