We met Cathy about four years ago when we were considering a domestic adoption after having done several international adoptions. We really loved Cathy, but we were called once again to adopt a child internationally and so changed our plans a bit at that time. However, as a result of that research I did, my sister did end up adopting through Cathy and Adoption Consultants, Inc. just a few months later! Last year, after 7 international adoptions (!), we were once again being drawn to a domestic adoption. We had our domestic home study just completed and were keeping our eyes open for situations from various agencies.
About two weeks after our home study was completed we received an email from Cathy about a birthmom who needed a home for her baby to be born any day. We emailed her back and she called us called us to further discuss the situation. We expressed our interest, so Cathy gave our profile to the birthmom to take a look at. She was interested, so Cathy set up a conference call the next day where we could all talk. It was during this call with our son's birthmom that we all agreed this baby would be raised in our home! Less than two weeks later, our son was born ... amazingly in the same town and the same hospital that my sister's son had been born almost exactly three years earlier!
Cathy helped us with our plans to come out to California. She made sure we arrived safely. She continued to remain in contact with us throughout our stay in California. Our birthmother was anxious to deliver and went to the hospital hoping they would admit her. The hospital maternity ward was full so she was kept waiting in the lobby. We had just flown in so Cathy helped arrange for us to meet in the hospital lobby. We even brought our birthmom food at Cathy’s suggestion (she had told Cathy she was starving) to help break the initial ice of meeting for the first time! While we waited hours upon hours, Cathy kept calling us on our cell to see how things were progressing. She continued to call the hospital social worker and charge nurse in an effort to get our birthmom admitted and into a bed. Through Cathy’s efforts, we are kept informed as to what was going on in the hospital maternity ward and when our birthmom might be admitted. Through Cathy’s calls, we learned there were other birthmoms on a waiting list to be called as space opened on the ward and our birthmom was not expected to be admitted that night (unless she went into full labor of course). Our birthmom was so anxious to deliver she did not want to leave the hospital, but Cathy was able to talk with her in a way that she came to understand remaining at the hospital was only going to continue to exhaust her and she wouldn’t be getting in any quicker. We took our birthmom home. We received a call in the middle of the night from our birthmom that she thought the baby was coming. We met her at the hospital again and finally she was admitted. It was so incredible to be there when our son was born! Since we had only done international adoptions previously, this was our first newborn! Cathy continued to check in with us throughout and even came down to the hospital to visit with us and our birthmom before discharge. She stayed on top of every detail in our adoption and helped make all the necessary arrangements regarding the legalities of our placement. Even after we returned home to Florida, Cathy continued to remain in touch with us and legal counsel, making sure no detail was overlooked. She also remained in contact with our birthmom, and to this day remains available to her.
We have nothing but positive things to say about Cathy and Adoption Consultants, Inc! Cathy is more than thorough and truly cares about each and every detail of each match she makes, as well as the families she helps. She is professional, available, friendly and caring. We felt in very good and competent hands with her.
We cannot speak highly enough of Cathy and, in fact, we recommend Cathy to everyone who is interested in adopting domestically. As a result, have had several friends adopt through her as well! If you are looking to work with someone who truly cares about your family, the birth family, and intricate in's and out's of adoption and will stay on top of all the details, leading you through the process by the hand ... look no further.... you've found her! She is just terrific!
Thank you Cathy once again for everything!
