There are not enough words to express our gratitude and appreciation for Cathy Mantell and Adoption Consultants, Inc. It was 4th of July 2004 that my husband and I decided on adoption to complete our family. After 3+ years of "trying" to have a baby and having 3 adopted nieces and nephew we looked into domestic adoption. We researched agency after agency and became very discouraged. We had already waited 3 years and did not want to wait another 2-3 years for adoption. We decided to look into facilitators and came across Cathy's ad in our local Yellow Pages. I put in a call and was surprised that Cathy was in. Cathy took the time to answer my questions (without accessing a fee!) and sent out her paperwork and directed me to her web page. After discussing it with my husband I got some references from Cathy and was very pleased at the response they all gave. August 29th 2004 we contracted with Cathy and she was so helpful with getting us hooked up with a home study agency and guiding us through the construction of our Dear Birth Mother Letter.
Our home study was completed on Nov. 1, 2004 and I sent off our profile to Cathy so she could start presenting us. Who could have imagined that in just 3 months we would be getting the phone call that would change all our lives! On January 18th Cathy phoned me to inform us that a Birth Mom was interested in us and did we want to have a phone call with her. We were so excited and nervous, but again Cathy was there, holding our hand and guiding us through this exciting time. Well, after speaking with our Birth Mom it just felt right! The next day Cathy called to say our Birth Mom loved us and has chosen us for her unborn child and oh, by the way, she is due Jan. 30 (In 11 days!!!). Did we want the match? Did we want the match? YES!!! We met up with our Birth Mom at an ultra sound appointment, but to our disappointment, we were unable to find out the sex. We did, however, exchange pictures with our Birth Mom and spoke every few days.
On Feb. 5 2005 at 9:00 a.m. our Birth Mom called to let us know she was in the hospital and was getting ready to deliver and we should come ASAP! Fortunately we only lived 20 minutes from the hospital. I had just enough time to get scrubbed in and we wheeled our Birth Mom into the delivery room. In just 15 minutes I witnessed the birth of our dear daughter! I was the first to hold her and helped in cutting of the cord. That was the wish of our Birth Mom. She wanted us to have this story for our daughter!! After the delivery I spent the next 2 days with our daughter and our Birth Mom at the hospital. It was a magical experience and one that I owe to Cathy. Through out our hospital stay Cathy was there, even coming down to the hospital to visit, and helped in the preparation for our departure.
Cathy, at Adoption Consultants, is the most dedicated person in the adoption profession. She brings a passion for helping not only families to become families, but birth moms in making the most difficult decision of their lives comfortable. There truly is a special place for Cathy in Heaven, because to us she is an angel! Even after our adoption she still inquires how everyone is doing and that has prompted me to refer a few people to Adoption Consultant (one that adopted as well through Cathy!) Cathy even took time out to attend our finalization hearing! Cathy is the most professional, passionate, and caring person and if we decided to go through the adoption process again I would chose Cathy all over again. She made this whole process as "pain free" as possible and everyone who I tell our story to is amazed with the easy and short time frame the whole process took - I accredit that to Cathy at Adoption Consultants, Inc.
A year ago, if someone told my husband and I along with our 13 year old that we would have a new addition for the holidays we wouldn't have believed it, but here it is and we are all so excited that this year there will be the sound of pitter patter feet and a new little one to spoil with Christmas cheer!
