Welcome! Thank you for taking the time to explore our web site! My name is Cathy Mantell, and I am the Founder and Director of Adoption Consultants, Inc. I have worked in the adoption field since 1989, for two separate adoption attorney’s offices, not only as the right hand legal assistant to a sole practitioner AAAA and ACAL adoption attorney, but also as the Director of a nationwide adoption law practice for several years. During this timeframe, I have assisted hundreds of birth parents and adoptive parents with their adoption plans.
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at U.C.L.A., followed by a Master of Science in Counseling with a Specialization in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling Degree in 1994, graduating with Distinction. I have interned under the Board of Behavioral Science Examiners as a volunteer for non-profit counseling centers providing therapeutic counseling to individuals in need, including at a trauma crisis center in the San Fernando Valley that provides services to individuals in crisis, primarily young women. I have also worked as a volunteer for a crisis hotline, providing therapeutic counseling to distraught and suicidal individuals, accompaniment at county hospital facilities, counseling, emotional support, and resources throughout their ordeal and beyond.
My therapeutic counseling experience, as well as my educational background, have proven to be invaluable assets, crossing over directly to the adoption field. The hands-on experience I gained through assisting and counseling individuals in crisis provided the foundation from which I have been able to draw in my adoption work. Many birth parents feel “in crisis” and distraught when they first contact the office, requiring not only education and information, but emotional support as well. Through conveying a sense of understanding and non-judgmental emotional support, birth parents are more apt to take the time to consider adoption as a viable option, without feeling pressured or coerced. My focus is to help promote adoption as a positive choice for birthmothers facing an unplanned pregnancy. I believe caring and nurturing, education, guidance, emotional support and a sense of trust and comfort form the foundation for a solid adoption plan for all involved.
I also firmly believe in birthmother counseling, as it can play a vital role in assisting birthmothers in exploring any ambivalent feelings they may have, provide them with much needed emotional support, as well as prepare them for the different emotions they may experience not only during the pregnancy, but also following birth. By being prepared for these feelings and understanding them, a birthmother can be better prepared to move forward, as well as feel more positive about the adoption experience. Additionally, the office routinely checks in throughout the adoption process with all of our birthmothers to help ensure their emotional and physical needs are continuing to be met, and to provide them with a sense of nurturing and support that may otherwise be lacking.
I am able to draw upon my educational background, therapeutic counseling experience, as well as my extensive adoption experience in order to provide you not only with a professional level of service, but also with personalized and caring attention. My unique background has provided me a level of expertise in the field of adoption which one can only attain through extensive education, hard work, diligence, fortitude and years of hands on experience. It has also served to lay the foundation for the formation of Adoption Consultants, Inc. For it was through these experiences I was able to attain a keen sense not only of a birthmother’s needs, but of adoptive parents’ needs as well.
I have chosen to limit the number of facilitation clients I assist with the goal that each might realize their dream to adopt within a reasonable amount of time, 30 clients approximately. It is also my goal that each adoptive parent I work with feel they have been personally cared for and attended to, not lost in the shuffle. I promise each and every birth parent and adoptive parent I assist that I will work hard to earn your confidence and trust, and I will do all I can to help facilitate an adoption plan for each and every one of you in as timely a manner as possible!
Again, thank you for taking the time to review the web site. I hope you find it to be informative and helpful. Please feel free to contact us to obtain additional information about the adoption process and our services. The office would be happy to assist you further!
